HOUSING

Outline for orphanage and elder house The current housing situation of orphans and elders is highly unsatisfactory. Most orphans and elders are staying in traditional Tibetan tents without proper heating and protection from the elements. Housing for some of the children and elders is provided in homes of local Tibetan people. Classes are currently held in a house of a local Rinpoche who kindly offered his facilities as a temporary solution. Clearly, the housing situation for the orphans and elders is not appropriate. Therefore, fundraising for this purpose is, together with the basic needs, the main priority of AWAM Foundation.

A preliminary outline of the facilities needed was sketched by a designer in the USA following Khenchen Rinpoche's guidance. The housing for orphans and elders should consist of a main building with 88 rooms and a school building. The school will have four classrooms on the ground floor and a library together with 4 rooms for teaching staff on the upper floor. The assessed cost needed for building these facilities is $150,000.
